How can I get feedback on Writing?

All the Writing work you do on your account is saved in your profile History. Getting feedback and results for Writing depends on which website you are using.

IELTS Ready Premium

In your History area, if you click on 'get result', you can opt to get FlexCheck AI feedback on your completed Speaking and Writing tasks.

FlexCheck AI

All new IELTS Ready Premium users get 2 free AI FlexChecks, which allow you to get feedback on two tasks (e.g. a full mock Writing test, two parts of a mock Speaking test, or one part of a mock Writing and one part of a mock Speaking test). These are valid for two days after you create your account. After these free credits are exhausted or have expired, if you want AI scoring and feedback for any further Speaking or Writing practice you have done, you can buy a Gateway or Advantage FlexCheck AI package. You will then be able to receive FlexCheck AI feedback on all your work, including anything already saved in your History page, until your test date.

To get AI feedback, complete a Writing practice activity or mock test from the Practice section in the menu. For mock tests, choose With FlexCheck feedback.

For Practice tasks, click get result from your History page after completing the task.

On a Gateway subscription you will get a breakdown of your band score for each marking criteria, vocabulary assessment and example answers. On an Advantage subscription, you also get detailed written feedback on each marking criteria in local languages. You can see this on your History page.

Writing feedback from an expert tutor is available through IELTS Flex with FlexLessons. As an IELTS Ready Premium student, you can extend your access to an IELTS Flex account for free here - just use the same email and password to log straight in.

There are two ways to get Writing feedback on IELTS FLEX: FlexCheck AI or FlexLessons.

FlexCheck AI

On IELTS Flex, you can get immediate, personalised and detailed FlexCheck AI feedback on Writing mock tests using our Gateway or Advantage packages. Go to Profile and Package to see your options or check out this article:

To get AI feedback, complete a Writing practice task or mock test from the Practice section in the menu. For mock tests, choose With FlexCheck feedback.

FlexLessons: Tutor Feedback

If you would like tutor feedback on a full Writing mock test, go to Practice and choose a Writing mock test with tutor feedback. You will need to purchase FlexLessons for this service.

Make sure you have a quiet, uninterrupted 60 minutes. You can start with Task 1 (20 minutes), or Task 2 (40 minutes) - you decide. But you must manage your time carefully, like the real test! We will not tell you when to change tasks.

When you have completed both tasks, your work will be sent to one of our expert IELTS tutors. They will mark it and give feedback. We guarantee feedback within 48 hours, but it is usually sooner.

You will receive colour-coded feedback for the four marking criteria based on the target score you have entered on the website, and written suggestions and recommendations.

If you would like to discuss your Writing submission and feedback with a tutor, book a 30-minute 1-to-1 session at a time that suits you. In the session notes, mention which writing work you have done (include dates if possible).
